KEARNY, NJ, June 8, 2021 / — We are pleased to share that Candace Kotkin-DeCarvalho, MSW, LCADC, RYT, CCTP, our Clinical Director of Outpatient Services, has been featured in the prominent wellness site, UpJourney.

Candace shared her perspective for the article, Why People Are So Easily Offended (According to the Experts). Her insights as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor appeared alongside those of 12 other notable mental health experts.

Based on Candace’s experience, people often appear offended because of anxiety, trauma or other common mental health issues. As she notes in the article, social anxiety affects about 1 in 15 people. Other disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are even more common. For more positive interactions, Candace suggests thinking outside yourself.

“I think the key to interacting with anyone who appears easily offended is to simply be empathetic and try to put yourself in their shoes,” she told UpJourney. “Consider that their experiences, mental health history, or other factors may be part of their reaction.”
